So today I found a basketball court at Hills College in Jimboomba. The court looked like it hasn't been used for months with beehives behind the hoops and grass growing on it.
While I was shooting and dribbling, next thing you know a Kangaroo family(mama, papa and joey) skipped pass and stared at me from literally 10 meters away. I was just standing there with my basketball in my hand thinking,'This must be the most amazing country on the planet!!!'I am not surprised that much though.
I have only spent 65 days altogether in Australia and can claim that I have seen about 10 different breeds of spiders, hundreds of the most beautifully(and noisiest)coloured parrots and finches(in the wild), rainforests that are as spiritual as it was thousands of years ago(complete with Pedamelons (miniature kangaroos) and deadly spiders, lizards the size of half a crocodile (in the wild),the biggest bats (known as flying foxes, these bats looks like a flock of geese flying over your head in the city skies and leaves dropping all over) and tons of other interesting things that you won't find anywhere else in this world.
My fiance's sister Jasmin gave me a book for Christmas by the american author,Bill Bryson. The book (called DOWN UNDER...a must read!)is about Australia and how this country is one of a kind. I can definately identify with all most of Bryson's experiences he had in Australia. Everyday brings a new experience and I always find myself asking questions like,'What is that?Is that poisonous?' and use the word 'Really?' often since I got here.
Today was one of those interesting days. Maybe yesterday too, when I was driving up Mt Lindsay Highway with blue skies in front of me and the darkest cloud that I've ever seen in my rear view mirrors. A flash storm was on it's way to Brisbane from South east Queensland and it was a minute away from where I was. I had to pull over at a shopping centre in a town called Jimboomba to visit the men's. When I came out of the restrooms, the storm was welcoming me with fierce winds, rain and hail, so much so that I could not even see the cars in the carpark just a few meters away. It looked like the roof will be stripped off in any second and all I could think of was Hurricane Katrina or her sister has made her way to Australia. It was scary.Very scary. 20 minutes later, the rain stopped and everything was back to normal.
That is just a day in Australia. Or maybe two days. Days filled with adventure and mystery. According to John Eldredge in his book,'Wild at Heart', any man wants three things in live,' To live and adventure, fight a battle and rescue a beauty'.I have found all three of those thus far right here where I am. Australia.
